West Bend welcomes business interested in filling vacant building

WEST BEND (WITI) — There’s office space for rent in West Bend — and city officials know just who they want there. Officials actively recruited a company known for concealed carry and self defense.

Business has been booming at Delta Defense. Phones have been ringing off the hook with people looking to be responsibly armed. CEO Tim Schmidt says his company is a service provider and promotes safety. His U.S. Concealed Carry Association is reaching members nationwide.

“We publish a conceal and carry magazine that has 65,000 subscribers. We also publish the conceal and carry report which is a free weekly newsletter that goes to about 650,000 subscribers,” said Schmidt.

Since 2004, Schmidt says his business has grown on average about 60-70%. Staff has doubled as well.

“I imagine within the next three years we’ll be adding an additional 10-15 employees,” said Schmidt.

Little Switzerland welcomes skiers with fresh, natural powder

SLINGER — The snow, the real stuff,  has come back to Little Switzerland in Slinger.

Mike Schmitz and his family are the ones responsible for resurrecting the double-sided ski hill commonly called “Little Switz.”

The slopes at Little Switzerland closed down in March 2007 after 65 seasons under the founding familiy. Five-and-a-half years later, the winter’s first big storm is bringing the snow seekers back.

“We hear stories everyday of people coming in that grew up here, learned to ski here. The locals are happy that we’re open again and the community support’s just been really positive so far,” said Schmitz.

Cold temps welcomed by ski hills in southeast Wisconsin

SLINGER — While the cold temperatures and brisk winds might not be welcomed by holiday shoppers, they are putting smiles on the faces of those who run and operate ski hills in southeast Wisconsin.

At Little Switzerland in Slinger, the snow machines are going full tilt and beginning to cover the grassy hills with the man-made variety of snow.

“It’s always really exciting when we can make snow, especially early in the season like this,” said Rick Schmitz, co-owner of Little Switzerland.

Ten machines use water and air pressure to blast snow across the hills. Little Switzerland is operating under new ownership and underwent a massive makeover. That means for the first time in five years, the resort will soon be open to the public.

Hartford Savings Bank to be acquired by Landmark Credit Union

Hartford Savings Bank is in the process of being aquired by Landmark Credit Union. The merger is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2012. This is the first time Landmark Credit Union is merging with a bank. Discussions between both financial entities began in June of 2012, led to an agreement between both CEOs and board of directors.

Landmark reports it will keep all Hartford Savings Bank locations open, and add 40 Hartford Savings Bank employees to their workforce. Landmark Credit Union CEO Ron Kase says, “We continue to execute on our brand promise, which is to bring consistent value and convenience to our members. We do this with great rates on loans and deposits and excellent service. And, we continue to offer free checking accounts and products and services with no or low fees.  We work hard so our customers can truly benefit from the value that only a credit union delivers.”

Patios on the increase at Cedar Ridge

WEST BEND - About a year ago Vic and Gen Albiero moved into their new apartment at Cedar Ridge in West Bend. Within a matter of months the couple began exploring adding a back patio to their unit.

“When you visualize that wall with a window it’s a nice apartment but when we put that patio on now it becomes like a suite,” said Vic. “We just love it. We’re out there all the time.”

The Albieros have a three bedroom, first floor apartment at Cedar Ridge. Little did they know they’d start a new trend at the senior living facility.

“We will have eight patios soon because another person signed up this week,” said Jill Pink independent living housing manager at the Ridge.

“Of all the things we have here at the Ridge this (the personal patio) is one of the things we didn’t have,” she said.
