Sale of DMV emissions testing building in West Bend | Business
WEST BEND - The DMV emissions testing station in West Bend is for sale. The 1.93 acres at 2001 Stonebridge Rd. is priced at $365,000. The property was last assessed at $587,700. The sale is being brokered by Jeff Hoffman from Judson & Associates in Pewaukee. The property will be ready for occupancy July 1, 2012.
The DMV emissions testing location at 2001 Stonebridge is actually owned and operated by a private-sector business, Envirotest of Connecticut.
According to Hoffman, Envirotest had been contracting with the State to provide the service. But changes in computer software now allow independent auto shops to handle emissions testing at a much more economical cost.
Judson & Associates listed the property in the beginning of November. It is 5,400 square feet.
Judson & Associates is selling the entire portfolio of SE Wisconsin locations as Envirotest has lost the entire emission-testing contract with the state.
In West Bend, Hoffert’s Auto Repair, 449 S. Main St., has been offering emissions testing the last five years.
“We can get you to the point where your vehicle will pass the test,” said owner Bob Blair.
“Right now we’re exploring our options with the State regarding issuing stickers and determining who pays for the test.”
